Welcome Freshman

By  |  15 Comments

You have been nurturing, coaching, teaching and preparing your child for this pivotal moment. The grand entry into adulthood. College. It is a big transition for everyone and
moving this big, new life into a tiny space can be challenging!

I wanted a one stop shop to make this process easy, affordable and comfortable. I found exactly what I wanted at Bed Bath and Beyond, http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/page/College They offer a FREE in store service called, Pack & Hold®. This service helps students easily get their stuff to college and is especially beneficial for students attending a school that is distant from home. Students can select dorm room essentials at their home store and then have everything ready to pick up for purchase at a store near campus for FREE! Here are some items from BB&B to help make this move fun, easy and stress free.

Bedding-
The “Campus Collection” bedding comes in a variety of colors and patterns to match any personality, style or decor. The bedding is also designed to fit the extra long beds often found in dorm rooms. It is a great price, durable and easy to wash.

Storage-
For your closet, this Studio 3B 6-Shelf Sweater Organizer is fantastic. It fits right over your closet rod and you can pack it with much more than sweaters. It also has pockets on the side for accessories and other personal items.

Save space and with the 3B sweater organizer.

Food/Beverages-
Sign up for your school’s meal program. The school meal programs are often buffet style, so take extra food back to your room in storage containers and store them in a mini fridge.

Instead of overpriced coffee, use this little Keurig. It comes in a variety of colors and is the perfect petite size for a dorm room.

Laundry-
The Novelty Laundry Bags are great way to keep your laundry tied up until laundry day. They also make it easy to carry.
Showers-
Flip flops, shower caddies and these Dri Soft Towels are a must. These towels come in varied colors and dry ultra fast so they are easier to store in your dorm room.

This Pop-Up Flip Hamper is also great. You can use it as a hamper in your room, then zip it and carry it on laundry day. When laundry is clean and folded, pack it back into the hamper to carry back.

What to wear?-
College gear of course! These students will be attending WVU and Virginia Tech. For Alex (our female model.)  I found University Girls Apparel, http://ugapparel.com/.

They have a wide variety of accessories, tops, jackets and even dresses. Definitely the place to shop for the female student or fan.

Launched in 2011, University Girls Apparel started as a small clothing line for West Virginia University and Marshall University. Since then, UG Apparel has expanded to over 20 schools and can be found in stores across the country.

Nesha Sanghavi, the founder and owner of UG Apparel, saw the lack of fashionable women’s clothing in West Virginia stores. The market, over saturated with screen-printed boxy t-shirts, also catered to Junior’s sizing. Realizing that there was little for the fashionable alumna to wear in cuts that flatter their body, Nesha set out to create a new collegiate clothing line in real sizes for real women!

UG Apparel was made with the fashionable female in mind. We have used the best colors and graphics that only a real fan would know about. We know that women come in all shapes and sizes, and each of them deserves to be stylish while being spirited. All of our clothes are made in REAL SIZES, because they are for real women!

Where is the best place to go for your Virginia Tech gear? Campus Emporium!

Campus Emporium is a Blacksburg-based, independently owned Virginia Tech shop. They focus on the fun of the collegiate experience, and it shows in their products. One visit to Campus Emporium and you can deck out your house, car, pets, and self in maroon and orange Hokie gear. Their uniqueness comes from the local merchandise they carry and the exclusive t-shirts that we design and print in house. While they offer great dorm and office décor, you won’t find any textbooks here. One of their favorite sayings is, “we aren’t on the syllabus, we’re on the party bus!”

They have been in downtown Blacksburg since 1995, and opened a second store on South Main Street in 2010. Or you can shop online at http://www.campusemporium.com/

Locations:
Downtown Blacksburg:
207 North Main St.

I am howling with laughter at the Would Mother Approve poster! The look on your face in the photo is awesome! 🙂 I did not know that BB&B offers pack and hold. That would save me a lot of time shopping.

Haha!! Like the poster. There stuff is great for those small college dorm rooms. Girls usually have a plan, but it seems like moms have to take the lead with boys. Great article.
