Mr. and Mrs. Pillow Set

By  |  4 Comments

This picture was sent to me from a casting call I sent out. I wanted viewers to send me some throw pillows they liked but just could not make the splurge.  Wendy Haston sent me this picture. I really liked it and have also seen similar pillows in specialty boutiques. I wanted to see if I could make it myself….inexpensively.

…and you can!

Mr. and Mrs. Pillow Set

Supplies:

1-2 yards of fabric (for base pillow)

2-1 yard of lightweight fabric (for Mr., Mrs and & design)

3-1/2 yard of fabric for small accent “&” pillow

4-Polyester Fiber Filling

5-scissors, needle, thread

6-acrylic paint and craft sponges

7- Stencils for your “Mr and Mrs” and “&”…or you can cut your own using a Silhouette machine and card stock.  I used the Silhouette to make mine. It is an amazing machine with so many creative options. Here is link to the product. http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/

8- Sewing machine.

Steps:

1- Cut your base fabric into 4 squares. I made mine approximately 18×24. You can create whatever size you like.

2-Cut 2 squares for your small accent pillow. Mine is approximately 8×8.

3- Cut 3 pieces out for your stencil fabric. I cut my large pieces approximately 16×22 and my small one 6×6.

4- Stencil the design on fabric. Make sure it is centered. I used a damp sponge and BASICS acrylic paint in black. (Make sure your sponge is damp not wet or it will bleed.  My “&” was a little to wet and did bleed a tad. )

5-Let it dry.

6-Now sew your stenciled fabric to the face of  your pillows. I did not hem the edges but instead, used the “zig-zag” setting on my machine. I think it gives a more rustic look. Choose whatever setting you prefer.

7-Assemble your pillows. Pin your pillows “face to face” and sew the edges. Leave an opening for your stuffing.

8-Stuff your pillows and sew the opening close.

Voilà! Your pillows are complete! These make a great bridal shower or wedding gift. Find out their colors and make them to match. They are unique, cool and handmade. Perfect!
